Fine wines, fine dining and free outdoor movies highlight some of the events going on this weekend in and around Boston. Here are some of our top picks.
April 2 – May 15 City Hall Plaza, Boston
A New England spring tradition returns on Saturday. It’s the 33rd Big Apple Circus featuring Grandma and all her friends. It will be on City Hall Plaza for 6 weeks. The theme of this year’s all-new show is Dance On! Among the acts will be monocyclists and lasso twirlers from China, Mongolian contortionists and a herd of 12 miniature horses. Of course, what’s unique about the Big Apple Circus is that it’s a one-ring circus and you’re never more than 50 feet away from the action. Tickets start at $15.
Through April 3
It’s a great week to sample new wines in Boston. Participating restaurants are offering a minimum of six featured wines at substantial discounts – $9/glass and $32/bottle. Check out the event website for a list of the 16 participating restaurants and the wines they are offering.
Through April 2
Enjoy dinner in the Seacoast City, at a discount price through Saturday night. Forty restaurants are taking part in Restaurant Week Portsmouth, featuring 3-course prix fixe dinners for $29.95 and lunch for $16.95. Check their website for participating restaurants and menus. Reservations are highly recommended.
April 1 – 3 Radisson in Manchester
More than 150 exhibitors will be on hand this weekend to showcase their products and services make right in the Granite State. The Made in NH “Try It & Buy It” Expo is a place to do just that – try and buy. There will also be plenty of food. It’s open Friday 1-8 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $3 for kids.
Friday, April 1 at 7 p.m. Breakheart Reservation, Saugus
This one is weather dependent, so be prepared to call for an update. But if all goes well, Friday is movie night at the Breakheart Reservation in Saugus. Bundle up, bring a blanket and bring the kids in their pjs to enjoy a G-rated movie in front of the outdoor fireplace at the Dunne Visitor Center. Hot cocoa will be served. It’s all free and has a rain date of April 15. Call 781.233.0834 for updates.
