LONDON (AP) — Amy Winehouse’s mother said the singer seemed unwell a day before she died, a British newspaper reported Sunday, while her family mourned the loss of “a wonderful daughter, sister, niece” and more tributes flowed in from fans and fellow performers.

A mound of flowers, messages and handwritten notes grew Sunday outside of the north London home where ambulance crews found the singer dead before they arrived on Saturday.

“R.I.P. Never Forgotten,” read one message, while another said “It’s all right, love. Go now.”

The Sunday Mirror quoted Janis Winehouse as saying she believed it was “only a matter of time” before her daughter died.

Remember a few days ago when we told you about the new children’s book written by Decemberists frontman Colin Meloy and illustrated by his life-partner-in-crime Carson Ellis? You can click that other Newswire post to get all the details (and there are many), but before you do, check out this cool animated trailer for the book (which comes out August 30). It was produced by the animation studio Laika, who also happen to be the minds behind Coraline. So cool credentials and all that. Since you’ve read this far, I’ll also tell you that The Decemberists came by The A.V. Club yesterday. You know what that means, right?

LOS ANGELES — In a battle of summer movie heroes, Captain America topped Harry Potter this weekend at the box office.

Paramount Pictures’ “Captain America: The First Avenger” opened at No. 1 with $65.8 million, according to Sunday studio estimates. The Marvel Comics superhero adventure sets up next summer’s all-star blockbuster “The Avengers.”

Warner Bros.’ “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” the eighth and final installment in the boy-wizard franchise, dropped to the second spot. It made just over $48 million in its second weekend for a domestic total of $274.1 million.

Don Harris, head of distribution for Paramount, said “Captain America” exceeded expectations. H

A short while back, Chili Lili’s Chili Bar (525 E. Menomonee St.) offered a special called “Menomonee Street magma.” The dish featured chili prepared with beef tips, pork shoulder, habañero and molasses. It was slightly sweet, with overtones of habañero fire—in other words, it was a bold, tasty chili. So, during a recent visit, it was a pleasure to see that the restaurant’s menu now features Menomonee Street magma as an everyday item. The menu has a few other changes as well. Chili now may be ordered as a cup or an entrée-sized serving. Also, the chili may be served over garlic bread, corn bread or mac ‘n’ cheese. Milwaukee’s best place for chili just got a little better.

Making a re-reboot of the iconic girl-power franchise “Charlie’s Angels” that initially caught fire on TV in the 1970s and morphed into two movies in the 2000s takes a certain degree of creative moxie.

But having courage, utilizing skill and being aggressive — all characteristics of muscled-up moxie — seems appropriate for the upcoming “Charlie’s Angels” that is being pitched as an action-adventure show for a new generation of TV audiences.

The first TV show starred Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith as three, sexy private investigators working for a man named Charlie, who would send them on dangerous missions to catch crooks.

Fiesta Garibaldi Sports a New Look

The exterior of Fiesta Garibaldi (5108 W. Bluemound Road) is a riot of color typical of Mexican restaurants. So at a recent visit it was quite a surprise to find a reworked interior filled with high-top tables painted in Green Bay Packers green. The restaurant remains under the same ownership, but it is now a sports bar named Fiesta Sports Unlimited. The walls feature sports murals and numerous flat-panel TVs. The menu has also seen drastic changes. Mexican fare still makes up about half of the menu, while the remainder is comprised of sports-bar options like burgers, pizzas and a Philly steak sandwich. The Mexican fare has been simplified—expect items like tacos, burritos and enchiladas. T Full Post…
