It’s been months in the doing, and now Capital Pub & Hot Dog at 400 S.E. Sixth St. in Des Moines has announced that its grand opening will be on Fourth of July weekend. The concept, owners say, is to fill a niche that has been missing in the city for a gourmet hot dog. The menu includes a variety of pub foods, such as appetizers and sandwiches, but the hot dogs are the house specialty.

They will be prepared in a variety of ways, such as the vegan dog on a whole grain bun; the Italian, with pepperoni, mozzarella, marinara and Giardiniera pepper relish; or the Nacho, a dog with crushed Fritos, nacho cheese and jalapeno. One of the more unusual offerings is the Heart Attack: a dog wrapped in bacon, fried and topped with cream cheese. Customers can always add to their selection from a variety of topping choices. The pub is in a location along the newly completed Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway Southeast Connector, located south of the East Village in the Market District, an area that is expected to see more mixed-use development. The pub will seat about 75 inside and another 18 or so on the deck. Hours will be 11 a.m.-close daily.See more at www.capitalpuband hotdog.com, on Facebook or call 282-6695.
