Downtown Denver is overflowing with restaurants primed for lunch, but thanks to the creative juices of the Civic Center Conservancy, twice weekly from June to September, Denverites can experience a national culinary trend at the largest gathering of food trucks in the Metro area. THE place to for lunch is Civic Center Outdoor Eats , an urban foodie oasis in the heart of downtown Denver.

Each Tuesday and Thursday, 40-some food trucks roll into Civic Center Park and the downtown Denver air is enticingly filled with the scents of pizza, pulled pork, barbeque, street tacos, burgers, hot dogs, brauts – and you just about name it. The only problem with this event is there are too many choices, but the good news is you can’t go wrong. Pick a foodie mood, and the Civic Center Outdoor Eats can match it.

The heat was on Tuesday afternoon when I headed to Denver’s Civic Center Park. I chatted with downtown workers, about the newly debuting Civic Center Outdoor Eats. The ladies informed that one of their co-workers planned to sample all the food trucks by September.

Quite a feat as I enter the gateway to the food truck gathering that began at the Greek Theater located between Colfax & Broadway. I hadn’t sampled food trucks since New York City – and that was a long time ago.

Window shopping for food is probably the most difficult of shopping, especially when your tummy

is rumbling with hunger. I sampled Island Noodles – yummy Asian – and Crock Spot – stewed beef!

I finally ordered a grilled turkey with cranberry salsa at

Street Eats.

Denver’s Westward calls this event, “an orgy of gourmet foods,” and wow, are they spot on!  More than 40 food trucks can be found at Civic Center Outdoor Eats each Tuesday and Thursday through September 29, and a few select food vendors will hold down the park Monday, Wednesday & Friday for those who just can’t get enough! (Free admission!)
