Travelers are drawn to the turquoise waters when dining in Bermuda, which brought me to Belmont Hills Golf Course’s Blû Bar & Grill on my recent visit for a seaside dining experience. Sushi and steak lovers merge with golfers and country clubbers at this steakhouse, seafood, and everything-in-between restaurant. I’m a fan of anything sushi, and steak was the substance of my youth, so I discovered my happy place at Blû Bar & Grill in Bermuda.

Located in Warwick Parish in the same building as the golf course, Blu is aptly named for its wharfside location with sweeping sea views of the blue waters on all sides. Its diverse menu features scrumptious seafood items, fresh sushi, thick juicy steak, rotisserie chicken, and even Chinese, giving Bermuda’s upscale dining experiences another dimension. Other tantalizing menu items: Baked Macaroni & Bacon with crisp cheddar crust ($19.75); Crab Cakes with mustard and frisée ($27.75).

My favorite entree the Grilled Tuna ($32.75), prepared perfectly medium rare, grilled with molasses ginger sauce and sweet mashed potatoes.

The restaurant also features dishes with a Southwestern flare, such as shrimp ceviche with jalapeno and red onion, roasted pumpkin ginger soup, barbecued chicken quesadillas and chili-infused pork loin with mushroom-sausage stuffing and creamy polenta.

Our service began at the sushi bar with martinis (Cosmo for me!) served by a friendly Romanian bartender while watching the chef prepare fresh sushi. After a small delay on a busy Monday night, our wharfside table service continued to be amazing, with a friendly waiter who although busy entertained us with his fun sense of humor. We ordered a bottle of Caymus Conundrum White Rutherford Napa ’08 — fresh, fruity, bright flavors, slightly more oakey than I usually prefer. When he presented the twist-top wine bottle for tasting, he said, “Thank you for choosing an easy to open bottle.”

After experiencing Blu Bar & Grill and other restaurants on this island from casual to elegant, I discovered Bermuda culinary experiences are surprisingly diverse and always tasty.
