10 Arts has a serious romantic vibe even when it’s not Valentine’s Day.

There’s an assumption about Valentine’s Day–and that is that you need to drop a serious chunk of change in order to guarantee some romance.  But I challenge that notion.  You can treat your significant other to an incredible evening that won’t be soon forgotten–and at a value, too.

Take 10 Arts Bistro and Lounge by Eric Ripert in Philadelphia.  Located in the lobby of the Ritz-Carlton, you might assume 10 Arts is some cookie cutter hotel restaurant.  You’d probably think it’s out of your price range, too.  But look a little closer.

Even when it’s not Valentine’s Day, 10 Arts has a funky, romantic ambiance that is hard to ignore.  It’s a great spot for an intimate meal–you can sit close, take your time and focus on each other.

Admittedly, there will be one distraction:  the food.  10 Arts’ Chef de Cuisine, Jennifer Carroll (who you may remember from Top Chef) and colleagues put on quite a meal.  The menu and wine list is incredible–you may have a hard time choosing.  Of course, you can always share.

My advice, however, for both the best food and value, is to go for the Chef’s Choice tasting menu.  For $59 (with wine pairings, $90), you can let Jennifer Carroll and her colleagues do the work for you.  They will pick out five courses for you that you and your partner won’t soon forget.  When I tried the menu a few weeks ago, I was treated to a lovely Spanish Rock Octopus with eggplant and chickpeas and Pineland Farms Short Ribs with polenta in a red wine brandy sauce, among other dishes.  The dessert was a seasonal item–a chocolate peppermint mousse that thrilled even a person who isn’t all that keen on the chocolate/mint mix.  All in all, a perfect meal.

If you are looking for the right ingredients for a romantic meal on or around this Valentine’s Day, be sure to check out 10 Arts.  You’ll find them all and then some.
